Extra Mile Day Celebrates Volunteer Heroes in 500 Cities
Mayors’ Declaration on November 1 Recognizes Impact of Local Volunteers.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – October 27, 2020 – Mayors from over 500 cities will declare November 1, 2020, Extra Mile Day – a day to celebrate the people and organizations that are “going the extra mile” to support local community events and services. From Seaward, Alaska, to Providence, Rhode Island, mayors across America are acknowledging the impact of volunteers in their community.

In connection with Extra Mile America, mayors in all 50 states have embraced the “Extra Mile Day” movement. At a time when requests for local services continuously don’t match budgets, Extra Mile Day celebrates the people and organizations that are stepping forward and serving. The vision of motivational author Shawn Anderson, “Extra Mile Day” was created in 2009 with 23 inaugural cities. Since its early roots, the unique declaration has grown exponentially.

“All across the country there are awesome people and groups who have taken the ‘go the extra mile’ spirit to heart and are making a difference in a big way,” shares Anderson. “It’s the working mom who finds a way to run an educational support group for other parents; it’s the person who signs up to help at the animal shelter despite COVID; it’s the person who picks up groceries for the elderly couple down the street.”

Anderson concludes, “It’s not slogans that make America great. Instead, it’s the tens of thousands of people who selflessly give of themselves in a thousand difference ways. They are the people who inspire me.”
